Sometimes the strongest position isn’t won through force—it’s earned through patience, trust, and perspective.

High Ground captures a quiet moment between a lone cowboy and the horse that carried him there. The rider sits motionless, faceless beneath the familiar red bandana, while his horse stands watch behind him. Neither appears threatened, yet both are ready. Together they embody the silent confidence that comes from experience rather than bravado.

Within the West of Everything series, the faceless cowboy represents something larger than a single person. He becomes anyone who has endured hardship, adapted to changing landscapes, and continued moving forward despite uncertainty. His identity is intentionally left undefined, allowing every viewer to step into the story.

The composition also marks one of the first physical mixed-media elements in the collection. A real ranch rope is secured to the saddle, extending beyond the canvas and blurring the line between painting and object. It serves as both a visual anchor and a symbol of the authentic western lifestyle that inspired the series.

High Ground is a reminder that resilience isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s simply the ability to remain steady, to trust your foundation, and to keep your eyes fixed on what lies ahead.
