There comes a point when holding on becomes more limiting than letting go.
Free Rein captures that moment—the decision to loosen your grip, trust where you’re headed, and allow yourself the freedom to move forward without needing to know exactly where the trail ends.
Seen from behind, the cowgirl rides into the unknown. Her face is never revealed. Instead, the story is told through movement: her hair caught in the wind, the reins in her hands, and the quiet confidence of someone choosing her own direction.
The deep black background strips away any sense of place or destination, leaving only the rider, the horse, and the feeling of forward motion. There is nowhere specific she is going—and that is the point.
The title Free Rein carries a deliberate double meaning. In the literal sense, it belongs to the language of horseback riding. Beyond that, it represents freedom without restraint—the permission to trust yourself, choose your own path, and see where it takes you.
As Chapter XVI of West of Everything, Free Rein introduces a softer energy to the collection without abandoning its underlying themes of independence, identity, and life beyond the familiar.
