‘The Rodeo’
(2025)
Created at the close of 2025, The Rodeo captures a moment suspended between control and chaos. Both works center on the raw intensity of the horse acknowledging it not just as a subject, but as a force, unpredictable, powerful, and unwilling to be owned.
These pieces mark a departure from my usual approach, leaning heavily into physical texture and movement. Thick, sculptural layers of paint form a rhythmic grid beneath the surface, creating tension between order and impact. The vivid, molten core, burnt oranges, reds, and golds, cuts through the blue ground like a collision, echoing the split-second violence and beauty of an eight-second ride.
Though completed in 2025, I held these works back intentionally. With 2026 being the Year of the Horse, their release now feels aligned, both as a reflection on the past and a bridge into what’s next.
‘The Rodeo’ serves as a teaser for my 2026 collection, West of Everything, where the mythology of the American West is pushed beyond nostalgia, toward something more psychological, volatile, and human.
These works stand at the edge of that shift.
